Apple Encryption changes - what it means for you…
In the United Kingdom, the government has implemented regulations under the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (IPA) that impact how companies handle encrypted data. Recently, Apple introduced a feature called Advanced Data Protection (ADP), which offers end-to-end encryption for data stored in iCloud, ensuring that only the user can access their information. However, the UK government issued a "technical capability notice" under the IPA, requiring Apple to provide access to this encrypted data for law enforcement purposes. In response, Apple has decided to remove the ADP feature for UK users, stating that they are "gravely disappointed" but remain committed to user privacy
